Most people who have played Sudoku have wondered whether it’s possible to create their own puzzle and how hard it might be. In fact, designing an interesting and difficult Sudoku with only one solution is quite challenging. At the very least, you need experience playing Sudoku and some online helpers.

How to create a 6x6 Sudoku by yourself

If you want to create a 6x6 Sudoku online, our 6x6 Sudoku Solver can help you. It’s convenient because the grid is already drawn with empty cells, and our system will alert you if you make a mistake or break the Sudoku rules. Here’s how to build your own Sudoku using our site:

  1. Open the solver page and fill in at least 8 cells (6x6 Sudoku with fewer than 8 digits usually has multiple solutions).
  2. Click the “Solve” button several times. If the solution stays the same — congratulations, your puzzle has a unique solution. If the numbers change with each click, it means there’s more than one solution, so proceed to step 3.
  3. Click “Undo” and add a few more digits to the grid without breaking Sudoku rules.
  4. Repeat step 2. If your experiment was successful, you’ve built your first custom Sudoku! If not, go back to step 3.
  5. Once you’re done, click “Undo” again and reinsert the last digit — this is your final puzzle. You can print it or take a screenshot and send it to a friend. You can also save the solution by clicking “Solve”.

You can even encode dates, messages, or create geometric figures — make your puzzle truly unique.

How to create your own 9x9 Sudoku

It works the same way, but with more numbers and combinations, it’s more complex. Follow these steps:

  1. Enter your digits on the 9x9 grid here: sudoku solver 9x9
  2. Click “Solve” multiple times. If the result is consistent, move to step 5. If not, continue to step 3.
  3. Click “Undo” once to remove the last digit.
  4. Modify or replace a few digits and repeat step 2.
  5. Once satisfied, you can finalize and share your puzzle. Or simply print a blank 9x9 grid and fill it in manually.

To increase difficulty, try:

  • Hiding some digits completely.
  • Placing repeated digits along diagonals.
  • Minimizing repeats in horizontal or vertical aligned blocks.
